Ricemus Maximus

My Canadian Civic CX traveled the NAFTA boundaries. Along the way it picked a few items that won it the moniker "The Chariot." It had a D16B7 lightly enhanced by a cold air intake and a red valve cover, none of which made if faster. However, the throttle body and hose for the intake were not compatible. I cut the hose to fit the throttle body, by doing this it created a whistling noise that sounded like a blow-off valve. That is to say, it sounded cool. The Chariot had one mid-car glass pack and no muffler. It was certainly loud enough to set off certain car alarms, especially in university car garages. Being a CX, I had to add a stereo and speakers. I had a Pioneer unit stolen at church, and later replaced it with an Aiwa, if anyone even remembers that brand. There was even a time when it had two Memphis 10" and an equally awesome amplifier by Boss. Then, being convinced stickers added horsepower to my car I branded it with Honda stickers, in case anyone didn't know what kind of car I drove. I later tinted some windows, painted my calipers and rear drums orange, and painted the steelies black.
Dear Chariot, it was a good run.

Origins: Stage II

Man is born free, and everywhere he is in chains.
-Jean-Jacques Rousseau

Rousseau takes a critical look at the tenets of liberal society developed as a result of the Enlightenment. Particularly, he examines the social contract and suggests it can be conducive to inequality. He posits that there are forms of property that are detrimental, these cause men to become subjugates in one way or another. Our society is predicated on Lockean principles of life, liberty, and property, the latter has become a crucial piece in determining the pursuit of happiness in our American society. The danger is letting property own our happiness.

Property, though beneficial for the conveniences of life, becomes a detriment when it claims a predominant place in our life. Property is not a true manifestation of happiness, instead we should strive to replace it with the joy derived from things that are not temporal.
